In anticipation of the new harmonised health and safety laws commencing on 1 January 2012, a number of arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth transition to the new laws.

For example, most appointments and elected positions currently made under the existing Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 will continue under the new laws. This includes elected health and safety representatives and members of health and safety committees or persons who are authorised representatives (union right of entry)
