The attached shows the dangers of using a reverse basket configuration to lift an object. View

This is a configuration where the sling/rope is passed over the hook with no mechanical restriction to the legs – the sling is free to slide in either direction. This is rarely acceptable for web slings (suitable only for long vertical objects or where both loops are attached to the same lift point) and never acceptable for wire rope due to the bend allowance being exceeded (see attached MacWhytes’ Wire Rope Efficiency Chart  ( See the chart )

In the case of the attached, wire ropes were used to lift a crane. Note also the loops are attached to the outriggers. These are not lifting points
